In Solitude fans may have already seen the live clip filmed by Sveriges Television (SvT) in Sweden and posted to PSL, the online music section of SvT, but now the entire feature, “On the Dark Side of Uppsala with In Solitude,” has been made available with English subtitles. The two part series was filmed this spring when In Solitude took a break from recording their third album, “Sister“, to show SvT one of their favorite places in the world: the 400 year old Uppsala castle ruin. When the clock struck midnight (exactly 446 years after the crazy king Erik XIV of Sweden went on a killing spree through the castle) the band performed two songs: “A Buried Sun” and “Jesus i betong“, a cover of Swedish punk band Cortex. Watch both episodes, including the songs and the bonus material where the band speaks about meeting some of their idols, now here.
You can find the live performances from inside the castle of “A Buried Sun” and “Jesus I Betong” on the PSL blog here.
Earlier this year, In Solitude confirmed their next tour in support of “Sister.” The band will be touring Europe with Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, Inquisition, and Svarttjern during February through the 1st of March 2014.
In Solitude’s vocalist, Pelle Åhman offered the following statement regarding the tour: “We are finally embarking upon Europe for the first time in the wake of our new album “Sister”. The scabs are ready to be ripped open and the boys are binding the ropes of their saints. To reach Europe is something that has been important to us throughout the whole process of making this album. Only Europa Knows!”
“Sister“ was recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm, Sweden during March 2013. The album was produced and mixed by Martin “Konie” Ehrencrona and stands as a logical next step above and beyond its predecessor, “The World. The Flesh. The Devil.” In Solitude’s strength resides in their ability to craft dark and oppressive atmospheres within the auditory realm of classic heavy metal.“Sister” compounds this trademark sound further, beginning with the acoustic intro, “He Comes,”and saturates the record in an aura of uniqueness; see: “Lavender” and the title track.
The album concludes with an 8-minute, driving, near trance-like opus that features guest guitarist Pelle Forsberg (Watain). Additionally, Jarboe of Swans fame can be heard on “Horses in the Ground.” Moods range from Mercyful Fate-esque guitar flavors, shadows of Black Sabbath, the heavy dissonance of Swans, to straightforward, earworm riffs. In any case, one thing can be said for certain: their delivery is as genuine as it is impressive.
