Former Rage Against The Machine/Prophets Of Rage bassist Tim Commerford‘s new band, Wakrat (pronounced wôk•rat) are already making something of a name for themselves without playing a note.

Along with Commerford, guitarist Laurent Grangeon and drummer Mathias Wakrat, led a protest through the streets of London, declaring a brand new micronation in what was formerly known as Parliament Square in an effort to expose the failings of the current political system.

The so-called Republic of Wakrat proudly “welcomes everyone of all ethnicities, backgrounds, genders, generations, sexualities, dis/abilities and faiths, and offers a fresh alternative to the current system.

Arriving to a legion of fans, media and bewildered tourists in an iconic red London bus decorated with the words #GenerationFucked – the title of the band’s new single – the protest created headlines across the UK and beyond, striking a chord in the current climate of political unrest.  Everyone is invited to join the Republic of Wakrat at http://www.republicofwakrat.com

The video, Smashing The Grid, which you can watch below, features the band talking about their formation, the creation of their self-titled debut album, their use of different effects and sounds, and quite a bit more.

The band’s guitarist Laurent Grangeon comments: “We need to do something completely opposite of that boxed-in, overproduced, gutless type of music that’s hammered every day.”

Their self-titled debut album is due to be released on November 11th on physical formats and November 8th on digital formats to coincide with the US election.  It can be pre-ordered now on ultra-limited, hand-stencilled and signed vinyl, signed CD and coloured vinyl, regular CD and vinyl, and t-shirt bundles at http://www.earache.com/wakrat

The album is also available to pre-order now on iTunes, which will give you an instant download of the track Generation Fucked, at http://bit.ly/wakrat-itunes
