Wyrd Ways Rock Show 1st October 2017

I will admit that I did have moments of doubting that this edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show would ever see the light of day. The inspiration for getting it finished and uploaded was, at least in part, Primordial Radio. It was their launch party in York on 30th September. Going to that event (before crippling social anxiety meant we left early) reminded me why I do this.

Rock and Metal is hideously poorly served by the mass media. The stereotypical image of us is that of a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal. We all know that nothing could be further from the truth, but why let the truth get in the way of a good stereotype?

Anyway, I’ve been letting the show slip for a while. Tracking back, it probably goes back to when my level of medication was increased. I’m experimenting with dropping it and I seem to have retrieved a little of my drive to do things.

I know this probably should have been a blog post, but you who take the time to listen to the show deserve to know what’s going on and why I’ve been so bloody useless at getting these things done over the last couple of years.

What are you waiting for? There’s the download link for you to click on, by the picture!

Bloodstock Announces Judas Priest as Third Headliner for 2018!

Bloodstock are excited and proud to announce their third and final headliner for 2018 will be… JUDAS PRIEST!

The metal icons are one of the most-requested bands by the festival’s loyal fan base and finally make their Bloodstock debut at Catton Park in 2018 on Friday night, 10th August.

A statement for the legendary Heavy Metal pioneers… erm… states:

“Judas Priest are thrilled, honoured and primed, ready to unleash Priest-style metal fury into the headbanging heart and home of heavy metal at Bloodstock 2018!”

In other news, Bloodstock also said they were rightly very proud to reveal that they raised £11,686.88 in 2017 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, bringing the total to over £60,000 since their partnership began.

Get tickets now for 2018!

Manson blames Columbine for “destroying my entire career”

Marilyn Manson has blamed the 1999 Columbine High School shooting for “destroying my entire career“.

Teenagers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 12 students and one teacher at the Colorado school, before turning the guns on themselves.  Following the tragedy, reports emerged that the shooters were fans of Manson’s music.

It was even claimed that the duo were wearing Manson T-shirts when they embarked on the shooting rampage. And while these claims turned out to be untrue, Manson admitted during a new interview with The Guardian, that they still had a drastic, negative effect on his career.

“Give them the money and let them make their own choice: guns or records. If (Klebold and Harris) had just bought my records, they would be better off.  Certain people blame me for the shootings at schools – I think my numbers are low, and hopefully they go up on (my upcoming) record. But, honestly, the Columbine era destroyed my entire career at the time.”

Manson’s first album after the shooting, 2000’s Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), had disappointing sales, and during an interview with Larry King in 2013, the singer admitted he knew the shooting would have an impact on his career when he heard the news.

“(I) was the best face to attach to at the time because I put myself in the role of villain.  Because I think villains are the key to any good story.  Before they were showing anything, they said a gang of kids wearing Marilyn Manson T-shirts shot up a school… I think I’ve been blamed for about 36 school shootings.”

Now Manson is attempting to move on from the “Columbine era”, and is gearing up to release his new album Heaven Upside Down, from which the video at the top of this item is taken.

Ozzy “not ready to retire”

Ozzy Osbourne has stalled his plans to retire because he doesn’t want to die like his father.

Sharon Osbourne wants a commitment from her husband, the former Black Sabbath frontman to announce his plans to give up performing live next year, after he turns 70.  Ozzy, on the other hand, insists she’ll have to wait a while because he’s not ready to walk away from the stage.

Ozzy told Rolling Stone:

“People around my age go, ‘I’m 65 now. I’m retired’, and then they f**king die.  My father got a bit of cash from the job he had, did the garden and died.

That’s a bit of an anticlimax after working so many years in a factory. I ain’t retiring. People still want to see me, so what’s there to retire from?”

He assured fans that the end of Black Sabbath earlier this year wasn’t the start of his own swansong:

“They’ve (bandmates) retired but I haven’t.”

The news will come as a bit of a surprise to his wife, who recently confirmed she and Ozzy had arrived at a retirement plan.

The TV personality, who has managed her husband’s career for decades, announced she is preparing to wind down her appearances on shows like The Talk in America and Britain’s The X Factor within five years and she has told Ozzy he must give up touring.

Sharon has been reported as saying:

“I’ve given myself five years then it’s time to say goodbye from the industry.  I just think that it would be enough. I want to keep my dignity. I’ve been working since I was 15 in this industry and I think that’s enough.

It’s very difficult if you’re at a gig and you’re the oldest person in the room. I think when you get to a certain age it can be somewhat embarrassing. I don’t want to be one of those people standing at the side in a mini skirt pretending you love it. I don’t want Ozzy singing Crazy Train at 75. I think it’s best you go out before you hit that 70 and go out on top.”

Foo Fighters appear on James Corden’s Carpool

Foo Fighters were the latest guests to appear last night (September 20) on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke.

Dave Grohl and his bandmates joined Corden for his popular car segment of The Late Late Show in the US.

Ahead of the release of their ninth studio album Concrete and Gold, the Foos and Corden belted out a host of their hits, including: All My LifeBest Of You and Learn To Fly. The group also performed their new single The Sky Is A Neighborhood.

In between songs, we get to hear stories from the guys, Grohl chatting about his infamous broken leg and Taylor Hawkins being embarrassed beyond belief.

At the end of the segment, Corden and the Foos enter a guitar centre, where Corden joins in with the guys to show off his drumming skills and they cover Rick Astley‘s global No. 1 hit, Never Gonna Give You Up.
