Leps go digital (at last)

On 19th January 2018 around the world, Def Leppard debuted their full recording catalogue worldwide via various digital services, including Google Play Music (which means you can get it on your Google Home speakers and Chromecast Audio… which is nice), Soundcloud, Deezer, Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music.  One of the last multi-platinum selling acts to be made available on streaming and download platforms, music fans from all corners of the globe can now enjoy tracks and albums from Def Leppard who have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide to become one of rock’s most enduring and influential bands.

Said Joe Elliott, “It is with a mixture of relief & euphoria that we now see our entire catalogue finally getting a digital release. Having embraced every other format with open arms, especially & more recently the re-emergence of vinyl, we’re now going to be available to everyone everywhere and honestly, it’s as exciting as the original releases were.”

Phil Collen adds, “We felt we’d been left out of the digital party, but it’s a thrill for us to finally accept the invitation and to be able to say “Yeah, you can stream us, download us and hear us on all digital outlets”.

As one of Britian’s biggest-ever bands and one of the NWOBHM’s greatest success stories, Def Leppard’s substantial career includes numerous hit singles including their first early chart hit Wasted — to their radio and MTV staples Bringin’ On The Heartbreak, Photograph, Rock of Ages, Too Late, Animal, Armageddon It, Love Bites, Rocket and Let’s Get Rocked. Their multi-platinum albums—including two of the best-selling albums of all time with sales of more than 10 million copies each in the U.S. alone Pyromania and Hysteria, captured some of the group’s legendary tracks, bringing together classic Leppard hits such as Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria and Foolin’.  The group continued their success expanding into the world of film, covers, and new collaborations including Two Steps Behind from Last Action Hero, No Matter What, Waterloo Sunset, and Nine Lives with Tim McGraw as well as Def Leppard hits When Love and Hate Collide, Slang, Work It Out, Promises and Now.  Finally, all of Def Leppard’s music is available to everyone, around the world from the band’s eponymous debut EP through to their most recent album.

Late 2018 will see the band deliver what many UK and Eire fans have been waiting for – the Hysteria album performed in full across eleven arena dates in December 2018

From Women to Love and Affection plus many other faves thrown in for good measure. Oh, and our old pals Cheap Trick will be there also to help with the celebrations!! We can’t wait’.

Attila Release New Album in November

Attila release their new album Chaos via Nuclear Blast imprint Sharptone on November 4th.  As a bit of a bonus, anyone who pre-orders the album from iTunes (click here to be one of them) gets instant downloads of Let’s Get Abducted as well as Bulletproof, Public Apology and Ignite.

Alternatively, you can pick up a physical copy via Amazon.co.uk

Here’s a preview…

Attila frontman Fronz spoke about how Chaos is return to Attila’s roots, saying:

“We sat down in a room together and asked, ‘What did we do when we wrote the first few albums that we don’t do anymore?’ We realized the thing we’d stopped doing was getting together and jamming in a basement. It’s so easy for bands to sit around a computer and create music. It’s too easy to forget to jam the songs in person, on real instruments.”

He continued,

“Everything about Chaos is real, because we all met up in Georgia, right near the basement where we used to meet up when we were living off Taco Bell.”

Brujeria – Pocho Aztlan

Nuclear Blast

Review by Rick Ossian

Rick takes his life into his hands to review “Mexican” gangster Death Metal band, Brujeria‘s fourth album, Pocho Aztlan. May the gods have mercy on his soul

Brujeria (“Witchcraft“) are an extremely militant Grindcore Death Metal outfit from Los Angeles, Mexico, according to their bio.  They are on their fourth full-length album with their latest, Pocho Aztlan (“Wasted Promised Land“) and they are seriously, severely Spanish, as you might have surmised by now.  Their members are as follows: Juan Brujo voz  (I’m betting he’s a vocalist of some stature).  Garganta Fantasma is also listed as a vocalist.  On guitarra, the Infernal HongoHongo Jr. – Bateria Pinche (perhaps a battery of some sort..? Maybe he plays a drum machine, not sure!).  Peach does Voices del mal Pititis, and Concubina del Inferno helps out there, Sangron is the voz Mal d Tarika (another vocalist, I’m betting), and Baby Bruja Guero III must be a bassist or another percussionist, perhaps… I may be a bit out of my depth here.

In any case, if you are about to listen to these fine upstanding Spanish heroes, then BE PREPARED, dear reader.  You are in for some seriously severe stuff!  The title track features some considerable chanting (in Español, of course), FX, slamming, Spanish growling (Señor Cookie Monster), and some serious bass playing as well.brujeriagroupshot

Let’s go track by track, as is traditional…

No Aceptan Imitaciones (pretty self-explanatory, I’m going to go with the most obvious translation, as in we DON’T accept imitations) is up next, and it is about the heaviest fucking thing I’ve heard in some time.  It is probably going to tear your head off when you hear it!

Profecia del Anticristo ( again, I think we’re all pretty sure where were going with this one – I’d say our old friend Jack Scratch is the main man behind this tune) (The Prophecy of the Antichrist).  It is extremely heavy, as it should be.

Angel De la Frontera is our next tune on board, and for now I believe I will dispense with the translations.  Suffice it to say that there is a revolucion in the works!  There is plenty more slamming involved here, and even a bit of Spanish spoken word!

Plata ol Plomo (Silver or Lead) features more of the same, particularly in the intro.

Satongo is more growling and slamming… I sense a pattern developing here.

Isla de La Fantasia (Fantasy Island) is a short slam, but worthy of a listen nonetheless.

Bruja (Witch) features a feedback-laden intro, along with plenty of heavy riffing and chanting en Español (of course).

Mexico Campeon (Champion) is a super short slam, but again worthy.

Culpan La Mujer (They Blame Woman) features more of the same.

Codigos (Code) has more of the Spanish and FX stuff in the intro, but again is worth a listen.  It is the single longest number on board, somewhere between five-and-a-half and six minutes.  Most of the other number are 3-4 minutes or less.  When I indicate a ‘short slam’, that could be even as little as 2 minutes.

The final track is California Uber Aztlan, and by now you will be able to guess what is involved.

To sum up, let me be brief.  If you enjoy your Metal VERY growly, very militant, and severely extreme, and en Español, then Brujeria may very well be right up your proverbial alley.  Check them out!

Verdict: 7/10

NEGURĂ BUNGET present first track from new album

Transylvanian Black Metal titans Negura Bunget have revealed the first track to be taken from their upcoming album, ZI. The album will be released via Prophecy Productions on September 30.  The video for the opening trackTul-ni-ca-rind, is right here:

Speaking of the track, frontman, Negru, comments:

Tul-ni-ca-rind is a song about sending a message between places, between worlds and different states of conscience. It all springs from a traditional Romanian instrument called a tulnic, which is still being used in the traditional communities as a signalling tool, but also quite a lot at funeral ceremonies.   We developed the song as a kind of language between natural and spiritual dimension, between ceremonies, rituals and silence, based on traditional funeral ceremonies and the complex relationship between the living and the dead.  Most of our songs can hardly be explained, and this one is no exception.  Although it starts from some concrete elements, it goes a lot further into unknown and mystery, where death is not the end, but merely a transition into another dimension.”

The new album, Zi (Romanian for for ‘Day’ or ‘Say’), is the second part of the band’s Transylvanian Trilogy, continuing their exploration of their native Transylvanian culture.  As with their previous material, the band merge Black Metal with traditional folk instruments.

ZI Track Listing
1. Tul-ni-ca-rind
2. Gradina Stelelor
3. Brazda Da Foc
4. Baciu Mosneag
5. Stanciu Gruiul
6. Marea Cea Mare

ZI is available to pre-order as Digipak CD, gatefold LP and Artbook 2CD/DVD from the Prophecy Productions store

Legendary American Proggers, Kansas, will release their intensely anticipated new studio album The Prelude Implicit on 23rd September 2016.  The album is the first new release in 16 years for the band that has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and is famous for “classic hits” such as Carry On Wayward Son (which fans of Supernatural will be familiar with, since it appears in the recaps of each season’s finale episode) and Dust In the Wind (as quoted in Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure when Bill “philosophizes” with Socrates).

The Prelude Implicit features 10 all new tracks written by the band and co-produced by Zak Rizvi, Phil Ehart, and Richard Williams.  Kansas’s signature sound is evident throughout the album.  They returned to the studio in January 2016 after signing with Inside Out Music.  Says Inside Out founder and president Thomas Waber:

Kansas are the biggest and most important Prog band to come out of the United States. I grew up listening to them, and their music is part of my DNA.  The Prelude Implicit undoubtedly adds to their already impressive musical legacy.  I can’t stop listening to it, and we are proud to be releasing the album.”

The result of the time in the studio was even more than the band imagined.

This is definitely a Kansas album,” remarks original guitarist Richard Williams.  “Whether it is the trademark Prog epic like The Voyage of Eight Eighteen, biting rocker such as Rhythm in the Spirit, or mindful ballad like The Unsung Heroes, there is something on this album for every kind of Kansas fan.  After years of pent-up creativity, the entire band is very proud of The Prelude Implicit.”

Lead vocalist Ronnie Platt adds, “Recording The Prelude Implicit was an incredible experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. It is my hope that, knowing the intense listeners that Kansas fans are, the continuity yet diversity of this album will be pleasing to them.”

When asked about what the album title, The Prelude Implicit means, “Without a doubt, this is a new musical beginning,” explained drummer, Phil Ehart.

The Prelude Implicit will be released September 23, 2016, on Inside Out Music.  The album will be available on CD, Double 180 Gram Vinyl, and digitally on iTunes and Google Play.  Pre-order opportunities will be available starting later this summer at KansasBand.com and Amazon.com.

Evil Scarecrow unleash new video

Working in conjunction with Bloodstock Open Air Festival, the… erm… “lovely” people of  Evil Scarecrow have decided to give their new single Hurricanado away free after the 22nd exclusively from the Bloodstock Festival website, all you have to do is sign up here to get a link for the track.

Hurricanado will also be available to buy from all the usual outlets for those who are desperate to pollute their minds with this filth – iTunes, Amazon, Google Play etc from 29th July.

Yes, that was indeed the new video for Hurricanado.  Dr Hell had a few words about the herculean feat it took to make:

“The final sequence was recorded in a single take, all we have done is sped up and slowed down some of the footage. It was a huge choreographed effort and we had amazing team of people that were literally in the shadows moving props in and out and throwing space hoppers and tricycles at us. It took weeks of planning and scripting and the whole sequence took about 16 minutes to run through each time. We’ll be releasing some time lapse footage of the chaos down the line”

This year Evil Scarecrow return to the Ronnie James Dio Stage at Bloodstock on Friday, and they plan to perform Hurricanado live for the very first time during their set.  Dr Hell has this to say:

“We really wanted to do something special for Bloodstock this year so we’ve fast tracked some music genius (*coughs*) from our upcoming album especially for the BOA fans, which will be available for free through the Bloodstock website! So, it should give you time to learn all of the ropey latin chanting that we crowbarred in-between some thunderstorm samples. Writing music is easy. It’s another massive Scarecrow hit and we expect to see you all spinning on the spot for Hurricanado. Bloodstock will be the first time we have ever played the song live, so the dizzier you are the less obvious our mistakes will be.”

Upcoming shows:
29th October, Corporation, Sheffield
26th November, Midlands Metal Crusade, Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton
23rd-26th March 2017, HRH United, Wales
