The next show is coming… be ready!

OK sentients, since I’ve done the recording for the current show, and intend to get it published tomorrow, I’m now taking requests for the #freespinwhatever portion of the next edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.   Might even be tempted to make it a bit Christmassy.

Oh yeah… I’ll also be starting to build the infamous, traditional Yuletide Behemoth, which covers the albums released during this year. The longest one I ever made topped 7 hours.

Suggest a track by clicking on THIS LINK or via the contact form, Facebook or Twitter, and I’ll trade you a shoutout – the only proviso is it’s got to be a song from an album that was released in 2017

I AM GIANT NEW SINGLE, UK DATES

Hailed by the Radio 1 Rock Show as ‘Awesome’, platinum selling rock outfit I Am Giant have bounced back into the UK music scene with stadium ready single Playing With Fire and a UK tour announcement.

The band have recently returned from a two year hiatus and have announced a line up shift consisting of their long time band member Aja Timu now fronting the band. Their 3rd studio album is due out in late 2017.

Earlier this year I Am Giant debuted a new single called Dead Flower, which reached No 2 on the Spotify NZ Heatseakers Chart, was playlisted on a range of international Spotify Rock playlists including Rock Out, Rock This and Spotify Italy Novita Stadium Rock, as well as garnering airplay on The Rock and Bayrock.

I Am Giant are kicking off the second half of 2017 with their explosive new single Playing With Fire. The confessional lyrics and soaring vocals mused with hypnotic guitar work create a song that will reestablish what I Am Giant have always been about; making memorable and soul-stirring music.

Paul Matthews says this about the track.
‘Playing with Fire is about just saying fuck it and not worrying about what others think of how you choose to live your one and only life’.

The accompanying video was shot by Adam Jones at Homegrown Festival earlier this year.

‘Playing live is our passion, and for years we have toured non-stop around the world. But nothing really compares to the Homegrown Festival crowd. We wanted to capture that with this video and thank all our NZ fans, especially the I Am Giant Army, for their constant support’ says Shelton Woolright.

I Am Giant will be touring with special guests New Volume on the following dates:

26 SEPT O2 Academy Islington – LONDON
27 SEPT Rebellion Manchester – MANCHESTER
28 SEPT Corporation – SHEFFIELD
29 SEPT The Cobblestones – BRIDGWATER
02 OCT Klub Hydrozagadka – WARSAW

Scott Stapp’s wife pregnant

Scott Stapp is set to become a father again.

The Creed and Art of Anarchy frontman’s wife Jaclyn is expecting his fourth child, two years after appearing on U.S. reality show Couples Therapy in a bid to work out their marriage woes following the singer’s bipolar diagnosis in 2015.

This is such a gift,” Stapp told People.com. “We truly couldn’t be happier or more excited.

The baby will be the couple’s third child, as the parents already share daughter Milan, 10, and seven-year-old son Daniel together, but Jaclyn admits the pregnancy wasn’t planned.

This is a huge surprise, and a blessing, and a miracle,” she says. “We thought we were done with diapers and pacifiers. This surprise fell into our lap, and we are just on cloud nine!

Scott adds, “It’s amazing. We just bought a new home and moved in. We were getting settled, and then we found out about the baby. The kids were jumping up and down. It’s so cute to see them. Every day, our seven-year-old runs up to Jaclyn and puts his head on her belly and talks to the baby!

The child is due in late November, after Stapp completes an upcoming tour with Art of Anarchy, and he cannot wait to spend quality time at home with his growing family.

We’re ready,” he shares. “I’ll be home a lot, writing music. So I can spend time with the baby every day. I’m really proud of the fact that I’m a hands-on dad. Changing diapers, getting up at night, giving the baby a bath, all of that. I love that role of being a dad.

The new start is particularly poignant for Stapp after his troubled 2014, during which he displayed months of erratic behaviour and split from Jaclyn, eventually losing custody of their kids.  He was then placed on a 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold in November, 2014, when police in Florida found him wandering at the side of a road babbling incoherently.

He checked into a rehabilitation centre in early 2015 and reconciled with his wife, and now life couldn’t be better.

I can’t tell you how happy everyone is about this,” he says. “This is a wonderful gift. I feel very, very blessed.

Stapp is also dad to an 18-year-old son named Jagger from a previous marriage.

He and Jaclyn wed in 2006.

Nikki Sixx hints at touring retirement

Nikki Sixx has “kind-of, sort-of” retired from touring.

The former bassist for Mötley Crüe and leader of Sixx:A.M. wrote a note to fans on Facebook last Monday (26th June), saying that he’s been on the road for forty years and, unless something drastic happens, has no plans to do it again.

That doesn’t mean he is retiring from music all together.  In just two short paragraphs, he has listed a number of projects:

Chris Cornell’s widow vows to make addiction awareness a priority

Chris Cornell’s widow has vowed to raise awareness about the dangers of addiction after overlooking the warning signs which led to the tragic rocker’s death.

The Soundgarden star committed suicide by hanging in a Detroit, Michigan hotel room on 17th May, but the coroner’s toxicology report also revealed seven different drugs were found in Cornell’s system, including a heavy dose of anti-anxiety medication Lorazepam, aka Ativan.

Although drugs were not officially deemed to be a contributing cause of his death, the singer’s wife Vicky maintains the recovering addict would never have decided to end his life had he not taken a double dose of the Ativan in the hours leading up to his passing.

She believes the drug “altered his state of mind“, and is now planning to spend her spare time helping others pick up on key signs which could prevent similar tragedies.

Addiction is a disease,” she told People magazine. “That disease can take over you and has full power.

Noting how devastating the loss has been for the couple’s two kids, 12-year-old daughter Toni and 11-year-old son Christopher, Vicky Cornell added, “I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure other children don’t have to cry like mine have cried.

In the new interview, Vicky, who wed the rocker in 2004, admits she “missed” the signs indicating Chris was struggling with his sobriety.

My Chris was happy, loving, caring and warm,” she shared. “(He) was humble, sweet, kind and good, with the patience of saint… This was not a depressed man – it wasn’t like I missed that. What I missed were the signs of addiction.

Looking back, she remembers the musician was often restless and sleep-deprived, despite taking the Ativan he had been prescribed to help him sleep, but she only spotted the issue when it was already too late: “That was a sign something was off,” Vicky said.

Walpyrgus release video for Dead Girls

US hard rock/heavy metal warriors Walpyrgus have released the video for Dead Girls, the second single off the band’s forthcoming  album Walpyrgus Nights.

The video is based on the original art created by Scott Waldrop (Twisted Tower Dire) for the comic book that accompanies the vinyl edition of the album. The glossy-papered, 56-page comic book depicts the lyrics of the album and is intended as a bonus for the vinyl release.  Due to a print surplus, the comic book can also be purchased  together with the CD, but only while ordering directly from Cruz Del Sur Music webstore.

Featuring an all-star cast of Heavy Metal veterans, North Carolina’s Walpyrgus will release their full-length debut album June 9 on Cruz Del Sur Music. The album will be released on compact disc, vinyl  and digital formats.

Walpyrgus Nights represents the full realization of the potential of this dangerous meeting of Metal minds. Hook after hook, cascading guitar harmonies, anthemic soaring vocals, and epic unexpected twists and turns abound on this eight-song opus. It is a genuinely inspired, wild, fun ride through the annals of classic Hard Rock and early Metal with a distinct personality. The album, which features the artwork of Gustavo Sazes (Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, Firewind), was recorded in a variety of locations over the course of two intense years under the guidance of Tom Phillips, mixed by longtime collaborator Kevin “131” Gutierrez (Raven, Deceased, Believer) and mastered by Bill Wolf (Raven, While Heaven Wept).

So when the when the stars are right and you’re alone, take a journey, lock the world tight and prepare yourself for the tales of demons, spectres and witches rising on Walpyrgus Nights!
